Our Client's Advice for Starting Therapy

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for the therapy to be tweaked and adapted to meet your needs. We all understand in a different way, for me having more visual mapping really helped.
  • Continue to use the methods and the recording of coping activities – it’s so easy to slip back into old behaviours if you forget to be self-aware and fail to continue with your strategies/activities.
  • As difficult as going to therapy is, it is to be highly recommended. Afford yourself the time to experience and enjoy it. Particularly afford yourself the time to respond to its value by both doing your homework, and by sitting and evaluating on a daily basis what you have learned, and how best to make good use of it. If you are like me, you need to bring with you an open mind, and a pencil to write down after the session all the clever things you’ll be offered in your hour-long session. It’s very easily lost when your mind is coping with other things. Also bring an open mind. New things and thoughts are sometimes difficult. Afford yourself the time between sessions to really get the most out of your therapy or counselling.
  • Be prepared to work together on a solution, don’t expect to be provided with all the answers or to be guided to solving the problems by yourself.
  • I would just encourage them (clients) not to be scared, and to approach the process with an open mind. I was surprised how quickly some quite simple interventions made significant improvements to my condition, with an almost full recovery in 4 months. Best decision I made in years!
  • Be prepared to work, and that things may be difficult before they get better, but stick with it!

2018

  • Give yourself time to work through the information from the sessions.
  • Give yourself time to work through the information from the sessions.
  • The therapy was a huge help in supporting me through a really tough time. I worked hard with my therapist’s support to process some difficult issues and get back on my feet. By the end of my therapy sessions I was feeling much better.
  • Be honest, you are in the safest of hands. Be prepared to change. Want it. You have to want a remedy. Have patience. There is no quick fix. But it does work!
  • Therapy can be a daunting thought, you have no idea what will be brought up and how it will affect you, but (therapist) ensures that therapy with her is safe and I certainly feel I can tackle difficult situations better now. I feel I’ve got a lot of tips to deal with situations that I didn’t have before.
  • It has really made a difference to my everyday life, it doesn’t come natural to me at the moment but the tools I have at my fingertips are always there to refer back to if I have a bad day.
  • (I) would always recommend counselling to anyone who needs independent help with stress, bereavement etc.
  • The CAT framework was useful as having the written letters and diagrams are something I can go back to after therapy.
  • Counselling should be entered with an open mind. Expectations should be realistic, a marathon not a sprint. Relapse may occur but learnings will enable you to cope much better.
  • Be open and honest.
  • I feel very strongly that the rapport between a therapist and their client is key, and I was lucky to find *** who I got on with very well.
  • Make yourself completely conversant with Microsoft Teams if you are having video consultations.
  • I found the service very supportive and was very helpful providing information & feedback. The counselling and programme was developed around my needs. The feedback & report was very thorough, easy to understand and allowed me to implement requirements for my recovery.
  • My therapist was kind, helpful & always made me feel comfortable talking about my issues. It is a very professional and welcoming place and I would recommend to anyone.
  • Always be open and honest from the very beginning as it really helps with understanding what your journey will look like.
  • I would highly recommend it.
  • Taylored Psychology is excellent: extremely well-organised and professional. I would wholeheartedly recommend Emma and her team to my friends and family. When you arrive, you enter a calm space with kind, understanding people who are committed to helping their clients. Having a regular weekly spot created a routine and a shape to the weeks which I found helpful. Initially, I felt nervous about going for counselling, but I knew that I really needed help. Very quickly Helen put me at my ease and I felt reassured that I was doing the right thing. I remember spending most of the first session in tears, but they lessened as I got better. It’s been a life-changing process and I am very grateful to Taylored Psychology.
