The five pillars of wellbeing offer a simple and effective way to look after your mental and emotional health, helping you feel more balanced, connected and supported in daily life. Each pillar can be nurtured through small activities that fit naturally into your routine. Sheffield is a great place to explore these, with plenty of opportunities across the city to help you build healthy habits that boost your overall wellbeing.

Connect with others

Sheffield has a great array of activities to connect with others. You can try something like a music or comedy night, or make the most of the wonderful array of wildlife around Sheffield and go hunting to see some. Markets are also a great way to meet some local Sheffield people and spend time with friends and family. Sheffield theatres offer so many different experiences, so open yourself up and go with someone to appreciate the beauty of theatre.

Be physically active

Take in the wonderful outdoors that Sheffield has to offer. There are amazing parks to walk dogs, chat with friends or simply be by yourself surrounded in beauty. Many of our gyms and leisure centres are run by Everyone Active, and exercise is a fantastic way to release positive hormones.

Learn new skills

Adapting and improving yourself introduces you to lots of new fun activities to try. There are so many wonderful courses, for example cooking, language centres or Sheffield College. You can also try a new hobby, be creative or read some new books.

Give to others

Volunteering and giving gives you a chance to do something for your community. You could join a community group like neighbourhood watch, or try one of our Sheffield Action and Volunteering centres.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness may feel strange to begin with, but Sheffield has lots of great activities to help you start. You can pamper yourself at home or at a spa, or learn something new to help you slow down and reconnect with yourself.
