Short Biography

I am the founder of Taylored Psychology and lead for policy and governance in the practice.  I love working with our team of associates, many of whom are long standing colleagues.

I began life as an academic, publishing on stress management and then developing, delivering and evaluating brief manualised cognitive behavioural therapy for shiftworkers in Rover, Birmingham, in my PhD.  I am an associate psychology lecturer with the Open University, which I have a long association with.  I  contribute to the Catalyse CAT training programme, and teach for The Academy S.P.A.C.E. Sheffield.  With colleagues, I have co-designed and offered a variety of CPD trainings for other organisations  including Therapy and the Brain, Therapy for Parents and the Family Court Process and Introduction to CAT.

After working as a lecturer for a medical school and commencing Cognitive Analytic Training at Guys Hospital, I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2000. From 2001-2012, I worked in the NHS with adults and older adults with complex mental health difficulties within community mental health teams and inpatient wards. In my last NHS position, I was lead psychologist for older adults in a major teaching hospital trust, alongside assessing and treating adults with acquired brain injuries on a post-acute cognitive rehabilitation ward. I left the NHS in 2012 after building my private case load and to help look after my busy family.

I offer psychological assessments, therapy, supervision and training.  I have specialist supervision in cognitive behavioural and cognitive analytic therapy, with  an interest in Eastern psychological techniques.  I have attended a variety of workshops and additional trainings including cognitive processing therapy for trauma, chair work, CBT training in imagery techniques, social anxiety, personality disorder diagnosis, working with  perfectionism and I am now undergoing training in EMDR.  We are part of UKSI (UK Sport Institute) network of approved clinicians working with elite athletes, and I undertake and disseminate to the team UKSI offered training.

I aim to co-create with clients a non-judgemental safe place in which you can understand and work more skilfully with your feelings, thoughts, relationships and recurring patterns of coping.  My approach is supportively challenging to help you progress.  I draw on a variety of techniques in keeping with my training and what seems useful to you.

I have extensive experience of family court work as an expert witness  and offering Local Authority funded therapy to carers in the safeguarding process. I now undertake limited expert witness cases for the family courts at legal aid rates.

I work clinically Tuesdays 9.00-13.00, Thursdays 13.30 – 20.00 and Friday 9.00 – 17.00.  I charge £140 per hour or according to insurance company schedules, with case managed fees on request.  I am registered with Bupa, Vitality, AXA and AVIVA.
